Thick fog when you are in a boat can be really scary stuff. If you have good radar and a good GPS system, it goes from really scary to just scary.

i got lost in a field one in fog but like a river once you find a bank or hedge you decide left from right and you eventually find the gate/jetty one way directly the other way after a short time

 

the scary thing even with every navigational bit of kit you can think of is how easily your little boat will disappear under the suddenly appearing monster you spot ,fog horns are rare today everyone depends on radar and gps leaving fishing boats even more vulnerable.had some really close calls in the solent even in clear weather i suspect those big container vessels once they drop the pilot off go onto automatic and they all go to sleep!
