Zander !!

Ant I base my comment the same as Mark on countless hours spent both Zeding and Piking with all types of baits, not on what others (the "so called experts" you speak of) say! I am also taking in to account what I have seen others do as well.I am most interested in your personnal belief that sea deads are good as this I presume is based on your personal experiences? I would be most interested in hearing how/where you get your results on sea deads.I and Im sure Mark to would find it a lot more conveniant to use sea deads rather than all the trouble of coarse dead/lives if we didnt think our catch rates woulkd suffer so dramaticly.

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

Ken L:

Nugg. I had small Jacks from Kidderminster on livesbait when I was quite a bit younger, but as the cut connects with the river at Stourport, I thought that a few Z's might have got up there.

I must get the map out and see how many locks there are betwen the lowest BAA water and the main river.

Ken.

There are two locks into the Basin at Stourport and one at York Street, just below where the B.A.A. waters start.

Dipped a line late this afternoon at 17, just for a bit of relaxation, not much doing at all, 7 boats though.

You can catch zander in almost any conditions, with extreme floods being good conditions on some waters. I have only had the odd one or two on sea deadbaits, but on waters that are regularly pike fished, I've heard that half herring or mackerel can sort out the really big ones.

English as tuppence, changing yet changeless as canal water, nestling in green nowhere, armoured and effete, bold flag-bearer, lotus-fed Miss Havishambling, opsimath and eremite, feudal, still reactionary, Rawlinson End.

Budgie/Mark - What do you want me to say? You both say sea deads are a waste of time, i'm living proof that sea baits catch zander time after time. I can only go on my own experiences same as you.

Yep, i'm no "big cheese" predator specialist, don't claim to be, don't pretend to be. What I do know is that I can and do catch zeds, by design, on sea deadbaits. I've been doing just that on the local canals, week in week out during the winter nights (yes nights), year after year.

You are more than welcome to join me when the weather gets colder and I begin my zander fishing. Want me to tell you where exactly? Not a chance on here for all to see, that will take a private message, seen to many zander left rotting on the bank for me to fall for that trick. Sure you yourselfs have also experienced that.

For sure on the exact location Ant I was interested in a bit more about how/when you use them and what type of water rather than exact locations.

Not doubting you at all more the fact that Im interested in seeing if you are doing anything different with your sea dead aproach to myself which would account for your sucsess and my failure.

I cant speak for sure for Mark obviously but I would have thought that most of his Zed sessions were nocturnal whatever time of year same as me so dont think that would be the factor.Mark?

Attended a meeting of the Broads Angling Strategy Group tonight. The EA Angling rep passed a picture round of a zander caught on Hickling Broad. Shock, Horror, a zander from the Broads!!! EEEK!!! Only it was a bass!! Seem to remember when a certain, well known A.N. angler caught a zander from the Thurne, only it turned out to be a ruffe! Was a ruff wasn't it Nugg?

On the subject of big Zeds Ive just returned from France.Whilst there I went into my local (or should I now say ex-local!) tackle shop (Macon Peche) they had a new picture of another 20lb+ Zed this one wasnt caught by an angler I knew but it looked every ozs of the 22 1/2lb claimed for it.I have now seen a total of 7 fish over 20lb from the Saone (1 I actually weighed another in the flesh but not weighed by my self and the rest in photos only)Makes you wonder what sort of Zed fishery it could be if they didnt kill them all..........especially now there are hardly any pike left and thanks to the gill netting the cats are going the same way.Who was it on here not long ago telling me what a great predator managment/conservation scheme the French had?

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

Well that's what we decided it was in the end, but who can be sure now. :)

Anyone else caught a 1lb Ruffe. :D

Budgie - Here is the terminal tackle for my favoured set-up. Usually would favour #8 trebles.

Really speaks for itself. Prefer to have a tail section just tripping the bottom.
