they're £13.95 from am*z*n free postage. :D

Post a link if they're cheaper elsewhere. I have no problem with that. I have neither the time, nor inclination, to go searching the web in search of the missing squid :D

Then realised that I needed a lighter as I don't smoke!

I always suffer that problem, Alan! I tend to light the handwarmers at home, but may get one of these - http://www.fishgifts.co.uk/FireStash - as an emergency back-up.

Hi Elton

I looked at the Firestash but again some of the reviews on the site talked about the cap unscrewing and breakages but a lot of people were very happy with it, It is also a bit cheaper below.

Mind you there were some poor comments on the lighter that I eventually bought. C'est la vie!

That's the very nature of customer reviews on the internet, it seems. The happy folk tend to keep quiet. I spent months holding back from updating the Facebook app on my iPhone, as everyone slated it in the Apple store, until I bumped into a mate at a trade show and he said his was fine. Updated it there and then and it's been fantastic :)

Elton,

No lighter?

Just remember you can't light a Zippo with a Bic.

Lord knows what might happen!!

Funnily enough, I do have a Zippo lighter here, too. Your post just made me reach into a drawer and find it. Still in its case, never had a drop of fuel near it :)

I bought two yesterday @ £13.95 ea. I found a couple of critical reviews of the Firefly ones so went for the Zippos above.

I'm curious where you read bad reviews about the firefly handwarmers, I can't find any good or bad ?

I know my friend loves his firefly warmers and on paper they blow the zippos out :D

Just spent two hours searching my Google history and can only find the three of the posts that persuaded me. I'm sure there was a fourth that complained that they were cheap and unreliable. I too, cannot find any proper reviews of the Firefly and these posts are not easy to find because they are embedded within other reviews. The references to the Zippos being made in the Peacock's factory tipped the balance for me.

Here are the posts:

Hi Stuart – thanks for this, did you get one? - In the end I went for the Zippo, so I can tell you my bit now I've got one... I actually got a Firefly one off e-bay first – the heat fluctuated more than I thought it should and on third use the.... 'platinum-catalyzed glass fibre burner' – I'm sure it was a pad of cotton wool - fell apart – I can hear you tutting – yes I should've known better.

As Elton says above "That's the very nature of customer reviews on the internet, it seems. The happy folk tend to keep quiet..........."

Incidentally the price has dropped by a further 45p. since I bought them!

Copied and pasted from my post on our Facebook page a few minutes ago:

Yay! My Zippo pocket warmer just arrived - http://www.fishgifts.co.uk/zippo

First impression is that it's built slightly better than the Peacock one I've used for years; the lid is tighter and the wick is better protected. Filling looks slightly more fiddly, though. I'll take a few pics, fill it up, light it and write a proper review for the Anglers' Net website soon...
