Velvet tench?

What is it that gives that smooth and silky touch to a Tench. I don't know of any other fish that has such a lovely smooth feel to it. It makes me extra careful when handling one. It really is a beautiful fish and feels it too :)

A very thick and solid mucus covering that adheres to the tench's scales rather than to your fingers.

A good reason why you should handle tench (and any other fish you mean to return) with wet hands.

Not due to small scales alone - think of eels!

I guess it's the small scales and the coating of snot. :D
