Dead Sony laptop

I have a fairly old Sony Vaio laptop that id dead when I try to start it up, No sign of life and no lights come on. Tried it with and without battery and power cord.

Any suggestions before it goes in the skip?

Check underneath...there is usually a "reset" hole near one edge of the laptop...gently push a paper clip into it to reset the power management circuits. If there is one this might get it going.

The battery may be "foutu" as they say on your side of La Manche. If you can get hold of a multimeter use that to check if you are getting power from the AC adapter. If you are getting power from the adaptor, but none of the little LEDs on the machine light up when it is plugged into the mains then the computer is probably foutu too.
