kb,

this is exactlythe point I'm trying to get-at and exactly what I'm trying to avoid/reduce .... and I think that OTT claims by certain line suppliers are contributing to this.

BUT the situation you describe is notthe only way to learn if your knot-strength is down .. Poledark & I, and I hope many others, actually test our lines and knots before we fish .. Den (Poledark) uses a nice water & bucket method .. one that I have now adopted for speed as it can take a while to get my new spools checked through my mate's Lab.

This is why I am always banging on about line having a date of manufacture on it Gaffer. All the correct testing and marking of a lines properties means nothing if it has sat on a peg board in direct sun light for a year or so!

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

It sure does ! Hence my many previous posts suggesting that spools carry a Date of Manufacture and a Use By date

P.S. Somewhere in my archives I've got data and a graph of three types of nylon fishing lines tested from the spool after 10, 100, 1000 and 10,000 hrs of fishing .... the results are very worrying ... Den The Poledark please note

I will try to find this graph and post it ...

DG, I do take note of what you say re line degredation, and I have had some which suddenly went all white and powdery and snapped like cotton (no need to test that little lot :D )

Perhaps we should call for a "best before" date on all spools...this would still not make me chuck away perfectly good line though :)
