Well after living in Scotland as a growing kid ferreting up on the hills and dropping the odd float fished maggot in the waters that advice coming from a Winter Scottish Pike Angler is the pedigree of the advice. may I say in the kindest possible way that a winter Scottish pike angler is truly a nut case I mean look at that Mr Burton. He is not the full ticket is he :D

Very hardcore Anglers in my view...

PS...What areas do you tend to fish?

hi mate i fish any where that there may be coarse fish both in UK and Europe

most of my piking is done at non disclosed locations due to to many eastern European pike/carp etc eating slobs reading this type of open forum

most of my carping is done on Scottish carp group waters with the occasional trip doon oor the border

i prefer smaller quieter waters such as clevelybridge near forton services nice friendly place very laid-back atmosphere

A kelly kettle with a cooking set is a bit expensive, but fun (and will cost you nothing if you put it on your birthday wish list :) )

i use a ghillie kettle (kelly kettle with whistles and bells) ,they now come in adonised & colour coated ,i might trade my alloy one in for a green one ,these are much better than ordinary kelly kettles as you get the whistle too let you know its time for tea (& cakes) theres cooking sets and Accessories too

You don't need a whistle. When the Kelly boils you hear the hiss from the spilled water hitting the fire. There are sufficient cooking accessories with the KK, I've done Irish Stew, Corned Beef Hash, Chicken and Pasta Bake, Full English Breakfast and made an Apple & Blackberry Pudding in the field, although I prefer the larger models for cooking on as the 1 pint model needs fueling too often. Of course if you really do need a green kettle............
