not tried for Zander mate but then it is Saltwater but maybe washed who knows. When you are out there for days anything is worth a go as you know. I wonder if anyone has caught a Pike on one?

 

I have never had a Pike on one but Bernard Cribbins caught a Zander at OBH on an episode of Catching the Impossible on a Prawn and Gudgeon head cocktail.

Always meaning to try them, but never have. Might try them this spring for tench

I use the Asda own brand ones, they are very small just right for loose feed and you get the odd larger prawn if you want a larger hook bait.

 

However I tend to use them just as loose feed now and use something else on the hook like a big Lob.

I tend to buy Marks and spencers taste the difference Dales . Only the best for here in the garden of England

I never hear too much about fishing with prawn which surprises me. I have had my biggest Carp and Perch on prawn.

first before most other baits i would put a float fished prawn on as i have had so much success with it! but I don’t hear much about others uses or success with it?

 

Most end up in my mouth too so it is a good all round bait .

What's weird, though is when someone comes over to find out what you're bagging up on, most of them end up walking off shaking their head like you've told them porkies and the real bait's hidden away somewhere.

Whizzed-up prawns in a method mix (with a spoonful of curry powder) work really well, with a full 'un on the hair. Half inch bits are a superlative bait for big roach, over loose fed hemp.

I could tell you a very funny story about Prawns and another Angler . Let's just cut it short and say after going away realising i was catching constantly and he was not i said he could have some in which he went promptly back to his swim carried on fishing with his maggots and made a prawn sandwich and ate it!

Prawns have been the most successful bait I have used on commercials with good numbers of:-

Carp, Tench, Golden Orfe, Trout, Perch, Roach, Rudd, Chub, Gudgeon, Bream and Barbel

 

The ones I use are the ready cooked ones in trays from Just about any Supermarket.

I dip the cooked prawns in boiling water for about 10 seconds to toughen them up a little.

In those trays there are always bits (less than whole prawns) and these plus about 1/2 the tray are broken into small pieces with a small number thrown into the swim about every 5 minutes.

 

At about £2 for a days bait they are even cheaper than worms. If the fish are slow then you can help them out by eating a few yourself but take care as just when you have eaten the last they are sure to come on with a vengeance.

Over here a "prawn" is a very large (read expensive) shrimp. Do you also use "shrimp"?
