Just got back from my trip to Somerset and checked the Roswell on Trent webcam.

The images of our unknown Trent beastie are just in.

This is the best as the others are blurred by the distrubance in the silt.

Otters, which I've been fortunate enough to witness in the wild in the UK and Ireland, do indeed splash around when "playing". But rest assured they wouldn't be around when anglers are about, even at night.

The seals I've seen in freshwater have surfaced quietly.

Most coarse fish will make a bit of surface commotion, but not zander in my experience. In fact since I caught my first, in 1968, I've yet to witness one strike at the surface. So a pack of feeding zander I would consider most unlikely.

Hope you catch whatever it is.

This is the latest update on the Roswell on Trent 24hr webcam.

This image is blurred by the short downfall of snow.

Is there no chance of it being salmon, we have a number coming through the river at the right time of year and they do splash about, plus that would tie in with you hearing it elsewhere, if they're entering the river together when the water is high enough
