This year i am treating Mrs Hawk to a boat on the Broads. I know a few hotspots but not many . September or August will likely be the month. Any tips on Areas this was only a second thought as obviously the destination was purely paramount as a bonding holiday between us :whistling:

Norfolk and the broads is a beautiful place, I am sure you and Mrs Hawk will have a great time which ever parts you visit.

 

Just keep an eye out for the locals, they are a strange bunch, you don't want any Wicker Man type situation :D

my daughter and family and a friend usually rent one for their holiday and going by the snaps you could walk along the rivers hopping one to the other ,not sure where they go from (i will ask) but i guess for a bit of a quiet fishing or peace and quiet a more remote starting place is best ,the trouble is with 4 knots max you all end up turning back at approximately the same spot based on how long your boating for

When you go, let me know. I'm one of them dodgy local types :D Don't worry too much, we only do sacrifices to the gods on the equinoxes, oh, and early November to thank the god of the sea for giving us gills and webbed feet...

 

I have better knowledge of the northern broads, rivers bure, ant and thurne. But at that time of year though, EVERYWHERE produces on both northern and southern systems. I'm not kidding. The only help you'll probably need is getting your keepnet in... ;)

This Years' Targets:- As many species by lure as possible. Preferably via Kayak. 15lb+ Pike on Lure...

Species Caught 2012- Pike, Perch.

Kayak Launches- Fresh-8 Salt- 0

Kayak Captures- 14 Pike, 1 Perch.

got many fond memories of hols on the broads! had several in my youth! (cant afford the buggers these days!!)

seriosuly though fishing on the broads was always great fun and usually produced alot of decent stuff.

to be fair i cant recall much of actual locations and suchlike but if you have decent watercraft skills then you will quickly pick out the best areas.

If you get stuck head to Lathams at Potter Heigham and ask in the tackle shop there for some advice, or Wroxham and again there are a couple of tackle shops there that have decent local knowledge.

dont forget to drag along some pike tackle as well there are some decent beasts lurking about (just dont catch father! he gets easily miffed when he grabs a treble hook!)

if your boating about then i dare you to head to St Bennets Abby and spend the night moored up and fishing there....if you can moor up there these days.....especially on a nicely moonlit night!

recall a couple of nights spent there jumping at all manner of noises in the darkness whilst trying to catch fish off the boat! LOL!

to be fair i cant recall much of actual locations and suchlike but if you have decent watercraft skills then you will quickly pick out the best areas.

If you get stuck head to Lathams at Potter Heigham and ask in the tackle shop there for some advice, or Wroxham and again there are a couple of tackle shops there that have decent local knowledge.

Looks like one of Budgies tours to me. Did he catch it or was he using the poor thing for bait!

 

 

@ Renrag. I caught my best Pike on the Bure or was it the thurne?...Anyway it was not far from yarmouth i know that. I know a nice spot at wroxam too. And i think Potter Heim i think ( near the pub) has quite a few nice pike in there.

 

@ kirisute...LOL...i will meet you at coombe abbey for a spooky night . I guess in September pike will be on the menu.

 

@ Chesters..Yes i think you end up coming back. You have to remember i have to tie this in with Mrs Hawk and play the game and work secretley under cover. If i meet anyone there you have to pretend you have never spoken to me...

 

@ dales...Mate i know about these redknecks. My mate moved up to the broads and gave up fishing a year later WTF?. He started repairing boats and drinking Cider. Apparently he was very good in the straw chewing contest....

This is a true story....I went up there for a lads week back in the late 80's and we went to stock up on some food for the week. One of the price tags had fallen off at the till. Now in this case as you all will know the light or buzzer comes on for assistance to find out the price tag. Well this place had a hand bell like the one they use in the playground to get you all in. We held our ears but the locals just looked at us without covering their ears and staired at us like a group of cows stare at you as if we were stupid!!

Then, a guy who must have been well past a letter from the queen came as what i can only describe as less than a snails pace with the price. My mate who was a bit out of order saying this said 'Don't you rush will you' in which the 105 year old said 'We don't rush round these parts you know ' and then just stared at him....Michael jacksons 'Thriller' had not been out long !

 

Seriously though i really enjoyed it back then ans always said i would come and spend a week boating again

 

 

 

Here is one to think about Lads...A 'ANGLERS NET BOAT IN' on the broads? :D
