Herran has eaten 2 goldfish

Had the same problem the year before last. I rigged some 40lb mono on posts so the line went round the pond about 40-50cm off the ground, and about 10-20cm from the edge of the pond. The heron can't stand in the pond, and he can't stand on the bank and lean over the line (or doesn't want to, anyway) I didn't lose a single fish all last year, and it cost me nothing as it was old line anyway. You can't see the line unless you are close so its not as unsightly as netting.

The grey man

One of the most common and stealthy predators of pond fish has to be the grey man, or heron. In most instances, the only sign you may have that you’ve been visited is a missing fish or a number of fish bearing the trademark loss of scales from both sides.

eeerr isnt that the cormorant  i though herons were stabbing beasties

i have found that those black plastic cats with huge reflective eyes work very well and are certainly cheaper than the pictured pussy :)
