New record common carp from Wingham at 47-08

The Carp Lake at Wingham threw up another monster common last night at 47-08. From the description it's the one with the irregular scale pattern, and so different from the previous record at 46-12.

Of course weights are pretty low at this time of year, particularly after almost a month of cold weather. I wonder what it'll weight come November?

I've just been asked it this is the biggest carp from the Carp Lake. The answer is no, last year we had a 49-08 mirror. This was one born at Wingham and probably isn't fully grown, having put on 9lbs in a whisker over 2 years.

Further details of the catches from both the Carp and Coarse Lake (that also holds very big carp indeed!) are on the web site (link below).

So the big question is, will the Wingham Whacker go 50 then?, from what you say it looks like its got every chance

I think it's more a question of which water will produce a 50 first. Despite the 49-08 mirror coming out of the Carp Lake my money is on the Coarse Lake.

Just got the photos and it's the same fish as Bob MacGregor's previous record. It's great to see it's grown over the winter though.

The Carp Lake contains at least 9 different 40s, including 3 40lb+ commons.

I'd add that this fish has a distinct scar on its left flank. As I didn't stock any such common this scar either occurred later (most unlikely), or far more probable it was a fish born at Wingham. It may therefore have some more growing to do.

Si, I updated the Wingham web site using Firefox. The Carp Lake amendment worked fine, but the Latest News page didn't despite getting a message stating that the update was successful.

Any ideas?
