I'm a car and van owner not an insurance expert but i think you should be able to put a van on a policy that has been used for a car and use its not claims on the van. If you are getting the van as a second vehicle you will probably need to start a second policy from scratch which doesn't have any no claims on it.

As far as I am aware as long as the Van is not used for commercial purposes it can be insured it in its' own right like a normal vehicle.

My father had a Ford Escort van and was allowed to insure as though it were a normal car.

On your insurance it will ask which category you wish to use so mark it as social domestic & pleasure.

Some insurers do vans, some don't. Just ask your current lot. I had to change insurers when I got my Land Rover, as Admiral wouldn't insure it because it had a van body. No sweat - current insurer is £86 per year :D
