Photo-editing

Recommended Posts

I've at last discovered photo-editing!

With my recent Canon camera came a copy of the latest edition of Zoom Browser. What I like about this package is that it can show up to 4 photos on the screen at once, making it very easy to pick out the best one in a series of shots.

I'd used the earlier editions with previous Canon cameras but mainly just to crop. Today I've been experimenting with levels etc., and what a huge difference it makes.

If anyone's got time to play around with the original picture on the bottom and improve on my first attempt I'd be very grateful.

Also any tips on basic photo-editing would be very helpful to me, and I suspect to others too.

Hi Steve,

You say the original is the bottom photo if so I think you may have warmed the skins tones a bit to much, but colour is of course in the eye of the beholder and we all see thinks differently.

I have used the bottom photo and had a play, the file is very small as you have reduced to post the link and therefore not as much to play with, but having said that here s my attempt.

I have tried to warm the skin tones a little, taken away some marks and given the background a bit of a lift. That is what I tried. :)

Beautiful Mother and Baby photo for the album.

Richard.

Fishing seems to be my favorite form of loafing.

I know the joy of fishes in the river through my own joy, as I go walking along the same river.

What do you think if the float does not dip, try again I think.

Thanks, guys!

Yes, I do prefer slightly warmer tones, but your version is much better, Richard. Cheers.

the original looks far more natural on my screen

Good point that, it's very hard to compare how photos appear on different screens and when they're printed out they usually look different again. As long as it looks good on yours then that's all you can do. As regards photo editing I'm a big fan but actually do very little with Photoshop CS (it's too bloody complex!), I use auto-levels and then sharpen by 20% and that's it. It produces good results for my fishing photos but also some strange ones on occasions. The North Cornish sea in this pic was nowhere near as blue as it appears;

i go back on what i said earlier. the original looks far more natural on my screen. i got them mixed up thinking the original was the modified.
I'm with you Andy. The top one has to much yellow. The bra strap in the unedited version is white and the corrected one has a yellow cast. Edited by corydoras

The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.

i see hints of turquoise in there too over near the rock face :)

ive always wanted to buy one of those screen calibrators since an old boss asked me to look in to them. but with my currently ancient crt with little dents and scratches i dont think it would be worth it until i upgrade to something modern.

I came across the "colour problem" quite often with my old PC monitor. Colours never seemed to be as I saw them when I took pics. I upgraded to a Samsung Syncmaster T220 monitor and was staggered at the true colour rendition, and picture quality.

I admit to being puzzled by Steve and Judys pics, Judys all look a bit mauve(?) to me, and the tp one of Steves looks very yellow :)

If the bra strap is white, then it should look white on the screen, whites in my pics always look white.
