Is this a wind up?

I have just had an email from Des Taylor warning me of a virus.

It has the usual blab in the mail leading to saying that I have the virus if I have the sulfnbk.exe in my C: folder.

Well its there, but I am not to sure if this is a wind up.

For a start how did I get it, as I never open attachments or anything on a email until it is scanned.

Any clues?.

Wind up for sure. This particular file is needed on many Windows systems (Win9x I know and ME I think) to properly handle long file names.

Take a look Here if you want more detail.

This particular hoax has been making the rounds for several years now.

This seems to be as good a time as any to post a link to this online virus-checker :) The data-files are updated hourly, and is well worth bookmarking....

And to check these things yourself to see if hoax or real, you can use any or all of the following:

Symantec's (Norton) Hoax page

Hoax/urban legend/myth page

f-secure's European hoax page
