It Actually Happened - My Rod Licence Was Checked!

just to add my bit, I dislike the way the 12 month lisensing period runs, ie. running out in March. If we obtain a licence say in Jan we still have to pay the full year? Not so for a tv licence or other licences i can think of? I suggest that it runs for 12 month from the day it was acquired

I've had my licence checked five times as the EA baliffs are (when the money is available to pay the part time staff) quite busy on the Tees and surrounding areas. When I was fishing one of our local wier pools someone came down and engaged in casual conversation, Have you caught anything, whats in the water , how long have you been down ,have you got a rod licence.

Yes I replied 'why'

I'm a baliff he responded,so I said if you're a baliff you'll have your warrant card with you then , can I have a look at it. Same fellow had to look in every pocket before he found it and then I produced mine. After production of my licence I told him that he's supposed to produce his warrant card before asking for mine ,needless to say he didnt stay long after that.

Got to say that the part time EA baliffs seem to have a better approach to the job than the full timers Ive met

In actual fact all an EA bailiff has to do on arrival is to introduce himself as such. You can then ask to see his warrant and he has to comply. He doe s not have to produce his warrant as part of the PACE procedure untill

asked

Hi Steve, I see you are a new member, so a big welcome to you and hope you enjoy your stay. I was fascinated that you ressurected such an 'old' topic, are you an EA official?

Hi Steve Holman and welcome to Anglers Net.

I guess this is one instance where I have a much easier time of it than you folks in the UK. Around here they will be wearing a uniform and carrying a gun so dead easy to recognize the wildlife enforcement officers. :D

From the back of the EA licence "Your licence must be produced on demand to a water baliff who produces his or her warrant, a police officer or any other licence holder who produces his or her licence."

That means if the baliff does not produce his warrant card when asking to see yours , then you can legally tell them to go take a running jump. If a baliff does not produce their warrant card then they have not got the right or the authority to demand inspection of yours.

Just to avoid any doubt I hold two EA licences

It would make an interesting statistic to see The relationship between the old start date (June 16) and the number of licenses sold.

...and the non-license holders are easy to spot too, they are the ones floating down the river with gunshot wounds :P

Nope. Dead men pay no fines. ;)
