To be honest, Tony, I don't think you can blame the hook if it's slipping off a spade end.

It may be that your knot is slipping.

Let the guys on here know what diameter and make line you're using and I'm sure they'll be able to help.

Tight lines,

Elton

In a word?? NO! I will use up to 6lb Maxima on a hook that size, so I don't think it is your hook. Are you tying by hand or machine??

It is to be observed that 'angling' is the name given to fishing by people who can't fish.

If GOD had NOT meant us to go fishing, WHY did he give us arms then??

(If you can't help out someone in need then don't bother my old Dad always said! My grandma put it a LITTLE more, well different! It's like peeing yourself in a black pair of pants she said! It gives you a LOVELY warm feeling but no-one really notices!))

Never seen the point in spade ends myself. Do they have an advantage over eyed hooks?

The main advantage spade have over eyed hooks is presentation. Maggots, casters on small hooks are better with spade ends. However I pesonally don't ponce around with these hooks ,leave 'em to the matchmen.

If anyone knows of a manufacturer that makes eyed 24's I'd be suprised.

It's almost imposible to make very small hooks with an eye so they come with a spade. Spades also allow significantly better presentation and stronger knots on small hooks.

Between sizes 14 and 8 it's purely down to choice.

For anything bigger than an 8, an eye is going to provide a more secure knotting point almost every time.
