Anderoo, RUDD,

All that and you still don't have the "good stuff".

p-78814-61993-horse-supplies.jpg

(liquid additive) I've never used the pellets.

Also, don't forget - we are coming into the seasonal window for fermented white raisins (I believe you call them sultanas(?)

Phone

Phone 1.8kg of them pellets over here are £29.99 and the liquid 3.8 litres £25.99 not including the £6.99 they want for delivery per item!

I will stick to skettering coarse fish pellets and molassess in the groundbait!

Dales,

Yes carp (for me).

You are likely to catch about anything on them this time of year. Even those green slimy ones.

Just put a small bowl on the counter. Cover with water, add a couple grains of sugar. Takes about 3 - 4 days. They will have a super odor when ready.

All,

Increase in 2012 terminal tackle was 13%. (IMO mainly due to improved technology used in lures. Some look more like fish than fish look like fish)

America's anglers generate over $45 billion in retail sales with a $125 billion impact on the nation's economy creating employment for over one million people. (ICAST)

Rubbish - It was caused by a rise in freight rates and fuel price increases which effect everything (The vast majority of angling products worldwide are made in China).

Raw materials extraction or production, raw materials transport, production of product cost, packing cost (which is also effected as it has to be made), transport to a warehouse, containerisation (fork lift etc), container transport to port, transport around the port (tug / transtainer), Crane to load it, Sea freight cost half way round the world, crane to unload it, transport around the port (tug / transtainer), transport from port to a warehouse, unpacking (forklift), warehousing, distribution from warehouse to shop, shop running costs including lighting/heating. ALL USE FUEL.

Last year the shipping companies all REDUCED the number of their vessels sailing around the world.

This caused a shortage of space on vessels allowing them to increase their freight rates to a premium so importers/shippers worldwide had to pay top dollar, also as fuel prices went up they also added on Bunkerage charges, haulage companies meanwhile added on a Fuel surcharge on all deliveries.

Purchasing teams work all of these charges into the final cost of their goods passing them on to the consumer.

The cost of everything has gone up and its all down to fuel in whatever form you use it.

I have worked in shipping / freight forwarding and haulage for 22 years and belive me prices are going to keep going up at a steady rate due to fuel costs.

I hate to think how much diesel one of todays super sized container ships uses in a single voyage!

RUDD,

APL class 125 TEU container from China to SEA has gone up roughly 18%. Inland rail 24%. (2002 - 2012). Taiwan slightly more.

I have no clue how many "fishing units" there would be in a 12,000 lb TEU but I'd venture a guess if transportation rates doubled it would be less than 1 or 2 cents per unit of terminal fishing kit.

I knew I liked you. I was a freight forwarder for 44 years. Retired and sold the business in 1992.

I just nipped to the tackle shop to stock up on a few bits - some PVA refills, some hooks, some leads, hemp and some other particles, 2 spools of line, boilies, a bag of pellet, some liquid flavour.

It came to £101.45

Yikes.

Why not make your own hemp? i just could not part with money to buy hemp from a shop. i find other flavours using cake mixes or various other similar sweet products and powders. I think that is the advantages of being around before the carp explosion as you made up your own bait and many of the old recipee's work very well much more than bought products....

I have always boiled my own in the past but the last big sack has finally run out and I only need a bit this year, so am prepared to pay a bit more for the convenience.
