lose

but what really annoys me is that britain invented most modern sports (or converted foreign ones to include rules) is that we the inventors are dictated to by foreign so called "international" bodies , since the british empire covered a third of the planet at one time WE should be incharge of our own games  not cow towing to lesser forms of life

I wonder what others think about the issue of playing in Zimbabwe. Personally I have mixed feelings. Rememeber Hitler tried to use the 1936 Olympics to gain propoganda and Jessie Owens shoved it back down his throat by winning five Gold medals. so mayby they should play but i don't want to see Nassar shaking mugabe's hand.

Looks like a 'no-win' situation to me: we're not going to win the tournament, and we're not going to 'win' any propaganda contest either. If we go, whatever happens, we'll only come out of it looking bad.

And then, last but not least, there's the Civil Rights issue.

I can see us doing well in the early stages, but I dont think we will win it maybe semi final.

As for the Zimbabwe game I have nothing personal against the Zimbabwe team and I feel desperatly sorry for the ordinary people in the Country BUT UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES would I speak or shake hands with the idiot Mugarbe(spelling) There is only one thing fit for that man and that is a bullet between the eyes!!!!! (probably missing his brain by 3 and a half feet) I would simply turn my back on him as I was introduced to him

COME ON ENGLAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

Setting aside the political situation (which should be enough to boyott anyway), I personally think it's morally wrong to be holding an international sporting event of this magnitude in a country where a substantial proportion of the population are starving to death! Thousands of tourists will be turning up expecting to be fed and watered, and those provisions could be far better used to save lives. I know there are arguments about the foreign currency and money being brought into the country, but that goes to the people who won't have any problems finding food anyway - it certainly won't put food in the bellies of those starving to death in the bush.

I think that there are arguments that international sporting events bring much a much needed boost to the local economy as small businesses and individuals can sell goods to the tourists. Mind you I still don't like the idea of us playing there.

Yes, I'd normally agree, but those are the people that aren't starving and probably won't starve because they can afford to pay the prices. And of course most of the tourists won't leave their hotels as it's too dangerous - their money will go to the big-business hotels and those who can afford the to buy the consessions within the hotel complexes.

It's a pity as Zimbabwe is a great country if you get out and about, but the majority of the cricket tourists will see the hotel, the cricket ground and practically nothing else.

3 cheers for the 2 players who wore black arm bands today (Monday). I truly hope and prey that all goes well for every cricket team in this world cup. At the same time I think it should be the players decision not to play in Zimbabwe not the leading aurthorities, after all it is the players who are putting themselves at risk. I hope we do well BUT I doubt it.
