Fly fishing for Carp

Recommended Posts

Morning folks,

I'm going to give the method another go soon, but I wondered if anyone could recommend another type of fly to try. They went through the one I used in no time, and before long they didn't float, which started to put the fish off. You can read about my last trip here - http://coarsefishingpaul.blogspot.co.uk/

Any advice is most welcome.

Thanks

ive seen people "fly fish" with waxed white wool; fake bread; glued dog biscuit and crane fly all with success.....the trick is to get them feeding with some freebies and offer your chosen fly nicely amongst them.

if your after a pure natural fly then go crane fly, mayfly or if you can create one then a floating beetle variety (especially good this time of year with tadpoles etc)

I sell a range of flys (Budgies Bugs) that are specificly tied for Carp. Although intended for use as a Zig Bug on conventional tactics many of my customers have used them on fly gear to good effect. Tied on strong carp hooks and highly buoyant. They can be seen at www.bass-online.co.uk

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

AnglerP,

I don't exactly fly fish. I have a bit of styrofoam cup (off the bottom of the cup) with a dab of black marker and a dab of yellow marker. It is shaped like bird poop. Works well under bridges and overhanging trees.

Here are some "common" commercial patterns.

I think Budgies Bugs would be excellent in the dog days of summer.
