Unusual groundbait ingredients

Bit of a lighthearted one this. What unusual things have you ever put in your groundbait, and have you had much success with them?

 

I was looking at all the tinned veg, meat and fish in the supermarket the other night and if you were brave (or crazy) there are a lot of strange things you could try.

 

BBQ baked beans, microwave Mexican rice or Dandylion and Burdock pop in place of water anyone?1

Not sure if its unusual or not but I have ground up biscuits/crackers and cake and used it as groundbait and I often use rice. I do think the heavier stocked a water is the more likely unusual baits are to work.

 

I often take a look at all the dried and tinned beans/particles in the super market and they all look promising for fishing. It's mainly the price tag that puts me off trying most as I can pick up more well known bait from the tackle shop/pet stores at cheaper prices.

 

Most fish/meat products will catch fish of some description and I would have no hesitation in just visiting the kitchen or super market for baits if fishing a commercial style water and would be happy trying almost anything as bait. However if fishing a lightly stocked and fished water then I think I would stick to more traditional fair and would like some good old worms or maggots.

 

Oddly I have tried Dandylion and Burdock and other soft drinks to mix groundbait, can't say if they make a difference or not. These days I would rather just use water with a quick squirt of liquid attractant.

A few years back there was a bit of controversy when a group of anglers held a match in rememberance of a recently deceased mate and used his ashes in the pud!

Controversy ? That sounds like a great idea

 

most groundbaits probably already contain ash like some aquarium foods too I guess ?

If I remember correctly Andy his daughter organised it all as it was her Dads wishes and it was reported in one of the weeklies

I did well one day with blitzed cheese sandwiches at Magiscoft one day. If left as a crumb it was perfect. A gentle squeeze still allowed it to 'explode' at the surface, a firmer squeeze allowed it to sink, giving off little particles, firmer again and it was ideal for cage-feeding on the bottom, firmer yet and it was good on the method and if you really moulded and kept forming it, it made a ideal hook paste.

I suppose the only limit is your imagination! Maybe I'll have a look round the supermarket tomorrow and pick up something to use on Sunday!

I have only a couple "limitations" and even then the fish don't read my posts. Stay away from "bitter". Try to use sweet with sweet, protein with protein, cereal with cereal,

 

A couple suggestions, first, the back room of the produce department and the grocery department are great producers of fish bait. Spoiled boxes of cereal or spoiled fruits and veggies are a premium. Take a bit of the "grape sack" to use on your hair for holding ingredients. It always comes back. The bonus of all bonus is expired or spoiled baby formula for your wetter.
