Drives ?

I have 2 drives in my PC. Master(16G)and Slave(40G). These are connected via a shared ribbon cable that clips into a socket on the motherboard.

At the side of this socket on the motherboard is another socket that is identical. Is it possible that I can plug in another slave drive ? If so .. how is it done ?

I have heard that it is possible to now get drives with up to 160G space on them. Has anyone tried them ? Are they any good ?

Cheers ... :D

yep, it can be done, you just need another ribbon cable, same as the one you have for the two drives

you'll probably need to go into your bios to get it to auto detect new drives, then windows should just see it. the new big drives, are big, and good! access times can be a little slow on the cheapies though

You also need a power connection so make sure you either have a spare or get a cable.

You should bear in mind one thing here, The file access speed of your machine will be governed by the slowest drive on the system. So, if you were to go out and buy a nice shiny new high speed hard drive, and make it slave to a slower drive, they will both be slow.

If you are going to purchase a big new drive, you would be better off taking out the smaller ones, and replacing them with the one new one.

You could use a program like Norton Ghost to copy all your information over, and so not lose anything.
