Wireless Network Printer

Just been looking at the spec for a Kyocera laser printer.

Listed under the interface options was a

Wireless LAN - IEEE 802.11b (card I would presume)

If this means you could use this printer in a location where all wireless enabled PC's Laptops etc. could have access, possibly well away from any of them, then it would be a truly useful bit of kit. Especially where desk space is almost non-existant, what with all the items plugged in to the PC in the modern home based office, could even stick it in the garage.

Mick - that's certainly what it sound like but the printer will need some device to act as a print server (queue up job streams and such) so unless that is built in with the wireless, you still need either a working PC that has the printer slaved to it via the 802.11b connection or a dedicated print server that does the same.

You are almost better off with This wireless print server that will hook any USB printer to the print server and it can talk to the other devices on the network via it's wireless feature.

A bit of digging and found the price for a 10/100BaseT Ethernet interface @ £199 for the Kyocera FS-1020D printer.

Bit steep for a card that if it were for a computer would be less than £20.

No listing for a wireless card though, probably not enough room on the page for all the noughts.

lots of mirrors or a "sender" :D

we used to have satellite all over the house ,to change channels in the bedroom we pointed the remote at the telly ,ontop was a sender that saw the remote and by wireless sent it to another within eyeshot of the sat decoder ,crude cheap and effective :D

not sure the transfer rate then but there may be similar today that work faster
