Hythe Monday night

Fished Hythe beach last night. Lovely night, spring tide. Not even a bite. Not another angler in sight. I am worried.

Just a thought, but with all the global warming, changed weather cycles etc, September has been spot on. A lovely month, just like it should be. Odd! Another odd thing, we are usually bombarded by wasps in this part of the world at this time of year. So far I have seen three!! Also very odd.

Not a sign Leon, I was at least expecting my bait to be robbed by Whiting. It's a puzzle. Spring tides as well. Although I have to say that in my experience, September is a bit early for Whiting in any numbers. Usually October here.

But, where are the pouting? When I packed up, I looked back at the lovely silvery sea, and had the feeling that is was completey empty! Sent a shiver down my spine. Something is very wrong this year.

Don't underestimate the effect the sea defence works at Dymchurch, are having on the fishing at Hythe, its certainly discolouring the water with suspended sand.

Extremely large boulders (bigger than cars) are being dropped to form offshore breakwaters, together with the large rock groynes, you can already see at Hythe.

Its interesting that the beach fishing at Galloways and Dengemarsh (to the West) and Sandgate, Folkestone (farther to the East) has been quite active with whiting, dogfish, bass, pout and some nice flatfish.

been fishing at hythe 3 times in the last 2 weeks, all at nite.

1st time was behind the old little chef, had 6 whiting, a smooth hound and a plaice in the morning.

2nd time was right along the other end, the other side of the groyne by the imperial. had whiting every cast bar 1 which was a good size pouting.

3rd time was on saturday night and we were fishing in the middle, had 7 whiting and a codling.

very surprised you didnt catch, where were you fishing, what baits rigs were you using etc??

always look on the bright side of life

I had a two hook whiting rig,( two up ) with mackerel and squid, either of those catch Whiting here no problem. The other rod had a 4/0 kamasan for Bass loaded with mussel, squid and limpets, held on with elastic. The bait was not touched.

Very odd. Last October, I was catching 30 plus Whiting per session. Perhaps it's a bit early. Still can't understand why no Pouting or Dogs though. I was fishing to the left of the rocks in front of the fish restaurant, at the beginning of Princes Parade.
