Windows Updates..................

Recommended Posts

I have got a problem when I try to download Windows Updates. It comes up with an error message. ( 0x800A01AD ).

I thought great--should be able to sort it out with my limited knowledge.Trouble is you get this info. about messing with the registry and can do untold damage etc etc.

Tried to carry out the instructions but got lost along the line--a few unmentioned bits cropped up that left me marooned.

Is there another way perhaps to obtain the updates?

Thanks in advance.-- Slashley......

What OS version? And are you seeing the "ActiveX component can't create object" version of that error?

When I go to download the updates it just comes up with "Windows update has encountered an error and cannot display the page" + there is just a reference to that error code number.

I have Windows XP.--Home............

I have tried these but seem to be going round in circles. I have found out that automatic updates are enabled. I have also found out that Service pk 2 that I thought was installed is in fact not.

And of course when I try to install Service pk 2, I get the same problem of not being able to download the appropriate page for that.

When I have been sent to System Properties box and been told to click Automatic Updates -- this is nowhere to be seen.

I wondered if this appears after I have installed System pk 2.

Now thinking of the most spectacular way to destroy my computer!!!!!!!!

Any tips are and will be appreciated. Cheers -- Slashley......................
