Why Is UK Bandwidth So Expensive?

The gulf between bandwidth prices in the UK are just ridiculous.

 

To give you an example, in the UK, I am paying one ISP £99+ VAT for a mere 40 gigs.

 

In the USA, I am paying around $8 per month for 150 gigs!

 

The only thing stopping me from moving other stuff to the USA is their culture of suing people. I've had enough trouble with forums in the UK. God forbid I should host one in the USA

 

Hmmm, now there's a thought. If China were to start offering cheap, fast hosting, I wonder if they'd be an exodus?

an unfortunate result of the near monopoly that BT used to enjoy. As a result new entrants to the market have charged similar high prices because they can.

 

Yet another example of rip-off Britain.

 

Just a thought Elton, but are you aware that in terms of libel laws the US is far easier going than the UK. In the US they still genuinely believe in freedom of speech.

 

It's the main reason that you see so many high profile libel cases over here instaed of in the US, much better chance of winning here, and winning BIG!

Its the same as everything else in good ol' Rip off britian.

 

Nothing here is cheap compared to the US or Asian countries.

 

Its one of the many reasons I`m moving to the Philippines
