Ah, I see. Well as much as I suspect it does aid in the throwing, I doubt that it would make it any easier to cast from a yak.

 

I have found out that there may be an issue with using them in Jersey. I've not confirmed this yet, but because they are NOT named in the net regulations, they may be illegal to use by default.

I have used cast nets in the UK and I can assure you they do catch bait (smelt and pouting in my case), but not sandeels. Smallest mesh size is 1/4 " which is too large to trap a sandeel. A smaller mesh would sink too slowly. You can buy from Memphis Net and Twine but they come loaded with the perimiter weights so they are heavy. Some UK suppliers stock them but do not have anywhere near the choice of mesh size and diameter of the US suppliers - and are expensive by comparison.

hmm while ill probably explore the cast net for fun how would catching live sandeels be done by most ppl instead of forking em out by hand on the beach do i use small feathers very small feathers of a yak off a sandy beach?
