Alasticum Wire

I've had an email asking me if I know where someone can get hold of Alasticum Wire. Anyone know?

The only fishing page that I found to mention 'Elasticum' was http://www.butterwell.u-net.com/tt.htm so far.

Spelt with and 'e' or an 'a', it appears to bring up lots of pages about an eye disease.

I remember some people using it years ago. It was a very thin single strand wire. Not sure if it was supposed to resist kinks or not?

 

We used to use 'Steelon' plastic coated stranded steel. No need for fancy knots, just thread it throught the hook eye, bend it back along it's length for about an inch and melt the coatings together with a flame. 15lb Steelon attached in this way has no trouble with most congers caught from a beach.

Being old enough to have used Alasticum, I can tell you it very definitely DID kink.

 

As soon as "Steelon" became available I abandoned Alasticum for ever.
