Hi everyone, I am looking to add a new float rod to my gear. I will be using it for float fishing light floats not at any grest distance for tench thats what I want it for but I obvioulys might hook the odd silverfish, crucian, bream or the odd carp max size 10lb in the prosses but 90% of the fish I catch on the venue are tench. I rarly fish comercials for carp maybe a few times a year so I wouldnt wont to buy a comercial rod but I am looking for a rod that will work well for tench fishing but you could get away with using it on a comercial for carp if need be. Now I am torn between the drennan tench rod mkIV 13ft and the drennan power float 13ft. Any opinions would be great thanks for your help.

I have a MKIV Drennan Tench Float rod which I use mainly when trotting a stick or avon float for Barbel and Chub on my local stream/river as well as for fishing wagglers for Tench and small Carp on stillwaters, and although the finish may not be as good as on the older models it's still a very nice and capable rod.

Although not ideal for silver fish it can be pushed into this; but for fishing lighter hooklengths (1lb to 3.5lb) on a light waggler I much prefer using a light or medium waggler rod which enables me to cast a light waggler with ease and handle fish on lighter hooklengths.

The light and medium float rods that I currently use are the new 13ft Drennan Acolyte Ultra float rod, a 15ft Hardy Marksman Specialist float rod and an old favourite rod of mine; a 13ft Daiwa Amorphous Whisker Light float rod which I bought about 15 years ago.

As stated above, one of the older models might be more suitable (though the series 7 tench float model is a nice rod).

I get away with using the acolyte for tench which has enough backbone for it, despite its lightweight tippiness. Beautiful rod - mind i wouldnt use it for carp. I've had a nice bag of chub averaging 4lb and it dealt with them in fast flow

I have the series 7 tench float, and it's a very nice rod!

Had tench up to 6lb on it with no problems, and the tip is fine enough that you don't bump smaller fish off either.

Not a fan of second hand rods - you don't know how they've been treated, or if there is any hidden cracks etc in the blank. You won't find out if there's something wrong with it until the very worst time!
