Socksy Squirrel:

The local Portugese feather for bass after dark using a beach rod, big fixed spool and strings of white feathers and 3/0+ hooks.

That's interesting. Do they get many?

@Summer@ - Bassing is normally better at night unless the water's coloured.

They must catch enough to make it worthwhile.

They fish purely for the pot and if the fish are not coming ashore then they will move on or try something else.

I caught a schoolie a week or so ago while feathering for mackerel. It was over the minimum size but not really worth eating so it went back.

Bass are often caught at night under piers and docks that are lit up. Presumambly feeding on bait fish that are attracted or stimulated by the lights.

Sounds interesting skips. I here rhb is a good spot too. When you think about it that place is ideal for them. It has scars, rocks, sand and kelp.

Yes Im sure there are a few bigger bass that roam this coast but I reckon they will take some catching :P from what Ive read bass dont get to a good size by being stupid :P I'm gonna have a bash at a bit of spinning for bass this summer, I bought a little battery air pump too to have a go at live baiting. We catch plenty of tiddlers when I take the boys on the pier, still not sure I could bring myself to stick a 6/0 thru a little fish tho :P I reckon down the cliff at Gristhorpe is a good spot too bit closer for me :P From what i hear theres a chance of a summer codling from there too and they take similar baits to bass. Its the only kind of fishing I can do :P big hooks and big baits
