Lures?

Yep, if it's a stillwater as you describe, I have to agree with Peter that lightly weighted soft plastics are the doggies danglies, with spoons a close second - particularly if the water is on the cool side. Keep a Moss Boss or the lilies though.

I tend to find that on stillwaters, spinnerbaits with either take them apart or won;t get a look. If it's a pressured water, one thing to try is long range range fishing with something like a pencil poppers walked ultra slow over the surface.

I,ve just had an email from CFR lures extolling the virtues of the so called Yidlibe illuminated lures. They apparently use a flashing LED, and sell for just under £10.

Has anyone tried them? Sounds like a good idea for coloured or deep water, and not bad at the price.

The ABU Atom is a must, as pointed out on another thread.

My 20 year old silver Atom Giller has caught me more pike than any other lure I own.

I have some of the hard bodied lighted diving lures. I would consider using them more if I fished with a boat. This being said, I do not and feel that to use them here and loose them would be a wast. If you are able to fish a water with a boat, you may find that these lures produce fish early and late as the light through the water is an attractent. JMHO!

Illuminated lures are, I think, still illegal in the UK. Not so sure about traces though! Starlights are useful, in the concave of a spoon, as are illuminous beads on the line.

I put an illuminous bead above my trace for night fishing. When I retrieve, the bead is both viseable and it stops the trace passing through the tip ring.
