Garfish????

Over here in Jersey, the small Ammo sandeels work really well on a small aberdeen style hook and 8lb mainline, fished fairly (5 foot or so) shallow.

They often like to hang around in tidal streams, so rocky outcrops and pierheads are all good places to try.

The lighter you fish the more fun you'll have :)

Braderz.

Off piers and breakwaters you don`t need to cast far. A light spinning outfit is as heavy as you need. 6-8lb line is heavy enough, just use something a little heavier for the hook length. A decent garfish will amaze you with the length of its bill and the number of teeth. Around high water is best from the shore. Float fishing with thin strips of mackeral is the usual, though a small spinner can be fun.

We don`t use J`s anymore!!

Must agree with Chippy re the sandeels and the tackle, if you've got any freshwater gear try a floatrod or a fly even, small orange and white flies work well. Believe me a gar on a light floatrod is the closest you'll get to marlin fishing in this country, they spend 50% of the time leaping about all over the place.

Use a light float/spin rod 4-6lb line and small 16+ hooks. set float 2ft above hook. use tiny bits of trout/sardine/mackerel but keep chucking in freebies. drift the baits down & strike quick.

They are mini marlin as stated above!

:D

Jealousy: totally irrational anger directed at people who happen to be richer, prettier, thinner, cleverer and more successful than you are.
