The highland council have announced that they are going to give any of there staff that quit smoking £50.

Now am I correct in thinking that it is my money they are going to be paying them with? I certainly do not recall them asking me if they could.

What do you think?

no hope for me i ended up with taking Zyban + wearing 2 21mg patches and still smoking my eyes were on stalks ,i think enriched fags should be sold with far more nicotine than these puny earth cigarettes provide

Ah but do they say why ? It could be to stop people skivving off work x times a day for a fag break thus increasing their working day and productivity. Could it be to cut down their time of work with smoking related illnesses ? Or could it be they just care for their workforce and want them all to live longer ?

Councils are a bit like governments and will do pretty much what they want. If you don't like them you can vote them out, and of course wait for the next set to do something equally rubbish etc..

It's a good incetive I suppose but surely there will be those who give up, take the money then restart.

What do the council do then? Send out the smoke police to see if they can catch transgressors!!! :o
