Favourite quotes

My favourite quote is the one I use as my signature. It is so simple and yet thoughtfull. I love quotes. In the last year or so I have received two beautiful hard cover journals with blank pages in them and thought them too nice to just write in and discard so I have decided to fill them with my favourite quotes and give them to my grand daughters on their 21st birthdays. A few that I have collected are:

The secret of genius is to carry the spirit of childhood into maturity.

Creativity arises from living on the edge of chaos.

I do not want to tip toe through life to arrive safely at deaths door.

Happiness is not having what you want, but wanting what you have.

I hate getting up early, I didn't even realise there were two 6 o'clocks in one day!

Another BB gem from the Aussie show. Tim, who is very quiet and polite after being frustrated by Rita who talks incessantly, doesn't listen, and interrupts.

"Talking to Rita is like throwing fairy floss into the surf!"

Before you judge a man, walk a mile in his shoes

then you will be a mile away, and you will have his shoes!

Censorship is like telling a man he can't have steak because the baby can't chew.

A sure cure for seasickness is to sit under a tree - Spike

All I'm asking is to prove that money can't make me happy - Spike

And I love this one -

What if the Hokey Pokey really is what it's all about?

Journalist on Radio 4 this morning arguing that darts wasn't a sport.

He quoted Andy 'The viking' Fordham as saying "I am a sportsman - I wear trainers and I've been on Grandstand"

Sid Waddell, darts commentator "He looks like he's been burning the midnight oil at both ends!"

At the risk of sounding all Carradine 'Kung Fu' and "How are you doing, Zen?", I have always rather liked this one:

“The wise man points at the moon, but the fool looks at the finger.”

Ancient Chinese proverb

"What did you expect to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window? Sydney Opera House perhaps? The Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically...?"

Basil Fawlty to the old bat, guest from hell, Mrs Richards.

One could stay indoors and drink to get bladdered, but that kills your social life, I have found! :D:D

Still, from what I have heard, Madeley is gaining a reputation for 'foot in mouth' syndrome.

My second favourite, " Try everything once, except incest and morris dancing"- Oscar Wilde???????????

What is so bad about Morris Dancing I and many others don't know.

I was waiting for this one to come up - it's one of the mostly regularly mis-quoted quotes of all! Here's the correct version:

"You should make a point of trying everything once, excepting incest and folk-dancing"

Sir Arnold Bax (1883-1953), quoting a 'sympathetic Scotsman' in "Farewell, My Youth" (1943)

Tony U, where are you when you're needed????

What if the Hokey Pokey really is what it's all about?

Or even the Hokey Cokey?

Never one to risk causing offence - not least with our CAA member - posters:

Foxhunting 'The unspeakable in pursuit of the uneatable' - allegedly Oscar Wilde - but then as Dorothy parker so sweetly put it, 'if we don't know who actually said it, Oscar did!'

This is a signature, there are many signatures like it but this one is mine

Here's one Oscar really did make earlier:

"The world was my oyster, but I used the wrong fork."
