Beach Lighting

I have recently bought a car booster starter form ALDI for £24.99 It has 3 lighter sockets. To one of them I have rigged a rear end reversing light from an old Escort car via a cable. It gives brilliant light! The charge is reputed to last 52 hours. I have not tried it on the beach, but it really lights up the garden! It says it's not waterproof, but I shall protect it with a Tesco bag, with the cable running out. To think that a not too decent headlight costs more, this is cheap and instant lighting. It also has its own two bulbs. It seems ideal. Don't know why I didnt think of it before??? No more tilley lamps or Coleman lamps that are temperamental a lot of the time. Has anybody else tried this? :):):headhurt:

Yeah but that was before they made clothing that actually keeps you warm, and you always nearly set fire to your brolley lighting the damn thing!

I use one of those little neon torches for baiting up etc then its off and I'm in the dark, much better! no chance of scaring the fish off either.

Have to agree with Dan, gone through the days of first the Tilley Lamp then an Anchor Lamp. Now it`s just a small head lamp for baiting and a starlight on the rod.

sounds a good idea but surely the weight of the hole set up is against you when fishing on your own lugging about on the beach . keeping the unit in a waterproof bag has advantages and disadvantages firstly it will keep the unit out of the rain but with the cold temps at the mow using a bulb such as a 12volt 25to 65 watt will be drawing alot and will cause heat tobe generated from power pack which in turn will lead to condensation on the inside of the tesco bag which will could lead to a short curcit . if you took the idea and scaled it down ,lets say a battery of a motor bike 6volt or12 which can fit in your pocket and a mini resistor to allow the use of a bulb at a rating of 1.5v/4.5v . ( led) would be ideal should last on a 6volt bike battery about 200hours and can be recharged in the lighter socket in the car and needs no hands to carry and would cost less than a power pack from aldi

i use a £10 led head light out of argos which runs on 3 rechargeable aaa bats and lasts 12 to 15 hours

and my good old coleman duel fuel lamp which gives off a small amount of heat enough to keep warm under the brolley with side sheet ( would not have it any other way) i even put a pie in foil and put it on the top of lamp for a few hours ( its the dogs cahooners) with a tea

if you want somethink to work look after it

The weight is the other thing I to travel light and like to walk away from the crowds and keeping it light mkes that pleasurable, you'd not walk far along chesil beach with a car battery on your back!

If you really want to use a big rechargable battery why not go for the sealed burglar alarm types they have a gell acid I think and wont leak.

LEDs are the way to go!!

BTW just bought a LED head light for a £5! and its bright enough to frighten the cat!
