Well I've heard about them and now seen then in the flesh, well feather.

Was down South by the Thames this morning and a couple of pairs few over head, thought it strange and mabey escapeeeeeeeeeees.

Nope remembered they are 'wild' in that part of the country.

So what's the story behind these beautifull green birds then? :)

Yes Dave its nice seeing them flying about. My daughter lives in Thames Ditton and they have wild parrots flying around their garden. Think they are paraquets(spelling) in that particular area. :)

There have been a few around Richmond and Twickenham for quite a few years now. My husband works in Richmond and has seen them a couple of times on the A316 just over Twickenham bridge.

i remember a mini flock of green parrots in the late 50's early 60's ,they used to terrorise my old mans racing pidgeons in our garden in bromley ,they obviasly were after food as they kept trying to get in the loft ,in the end my old man got rid of the pidgeons he couldnt keep replacing parrot ravished roofing felt.

spotted a flamingo at dawn a few years ago at a pond no doupt an escapee from somewhere (or VERY lost) :D

I use to see them when living in Bromley over 20 years ago.

In the last two years I now see, and hear, large numbers in Orpington. They are now spreading a quite a rate. The fruit growers of middle Kent won't be happy in a couple of years time.

The cold weather does not affect them, so much so that they often roost in tall trees in a open aspect.

While being very timid, they are now growing use to humans in some parks and often you can get quite close to them, . . . visit Kelsey Park in Beckenham which also has a large Heron colony.
