Help With Baitrunner

As soon as I left school in 1950 I saved most of my first three or four week's wages (under £3 a week) and bought a claw pick-up Mitchell, It cost £6-17-6 (that's £6.87 in decimal to nearest penny) Bail arms had not yet been invented - or if they had, Mitchell had not heard of them.

Second f/s was a Mitchell CAP for light spinning. Intrepid f/s came along a bit later and I never bought or used one, as by then I had enough Mitchells and a Felton - acquired one or two Intrepids in various job lots though, and donated them to Chesters long ago.

Hardy owned the patent up to about 1954 i was told ,some people like finger bails ,my intrepid surfcast 80's came in both forms .

I still remember the privilege of receiving them and ofcourse meeting one of our angling greats

I always found it strange mitchell didnt make (then) ambidextrous reels ,i presume because their internal cog system was so complicated (for such an symplistic action) there wasnt the room

The intrepid elite was the most technical reel out there at the time ,unfortunately it was down hill from then on
