To obtain live eels either dig/rake them from sandy beaches (usually at night) on low springs, buy them from a seine netter or someone who trawls for them (only done in Guernsey, Weymouth or Exmouth I think), or catch big ones on small feathers from a boat, usually over a big bank like the Schole / shambles.

Yes we have em here in Exmouth,couple of guys net them.

You can also get them in Teignmouth, on back beach, theres a guy who has tanks in a beach hut that sells them.

Same as you I use the small hokai shrimps , had some smashing launce/eels with them.

theres a cheaper one available from the local scrap merchants its a bit heavy because its made of LEAD

you can get eels from the man on the beach - unlike crabs, which you get from the girl on the pier!
