Hey guys,

Im still researching theses kayaks and came across the RTM range and liked the look of the Disco.

Does anybody know anything about these SOT's especially compared to Prowler 13 and 15.

It measures 14ft and 26inch beam.

Don't have any experience of the brand other than they have been selling for a while in Europe and have recently spread to the UK, most kayak retailers now have them in stock so you should be able to get a paddle before you buy, try and get a paddle in a Prowler at the same time.

Worth checking the warranty on the RTM, you get three years with Ocean Kayak.

Looks very nice, but it's the test of time, the new range of sit-on-tops have been designed around fishing, it all depends on what you want to do with it, but I would go to a proved company that has been in the business a few years, but saying that some, but not all have leaked from day one from a good company.

I must go down to the sea again

To the lonely sea and sky

I left my shoes and socks there

I wonder if they're dry?

Mick,

the one you show is actually a touring kayak, although a sit on top, it is designed for distance touring with gear stowed away.

It is modelled on a traditional Greenland style - notice the long overhangs at either end. This adds length to the kayak, makes it look nice, but does absolutely bugger all to the performance - because it is waterline length and beam that matter. With those overhangs you gain windage and weight, but no waterline advantage - so your 17' 6" kayak is no faster than a 16' without overhangs - but overhangs are fashionable and traditional and people want them. The 14' of the DISCO means she won't actually be as fast as the Scupper Pro (Tempo).

You are looking in the right direction though.

As for RTM - they have several models which are almost identical to the Ocean Kayak models.

e.g. their TEMPO is the same hull as the Scupper Pro, with the same ridges and everything. The differences are minimal - no scupper holes in the seat well. The fittings are slightly different - side handles have scoops. Tank well is covered with an elastic net rather than bungy cords. Front hatch cover has indents for round tubs.

Likewise the TANGO is Ocean Kayak's Scrambler XT - same deal.

The big difference comes in the price

RTM TEMPO £499.99

OK Scupper Pro £399.00 - with a 3 year guarantee.

You take your pick......!
