Zzippy, it will definitely work with the dowl, just saying it can be improved using flexible spars, the rigidity of your sail and mast will possibly make it faster, it will be just that bit more scarey and less comfortable than if you used flexible spars.

I will be using a smaller bore of hose to secure the spars on my version. Went to the kite shop in Covent Garden at lunchtime, the shop sells handbags now... didn't buy one :D

Speciman,

Whats your . :D

SM :)

There is a kite shop near us.I might take a look tomorrow to see what they have there. Its going to be good in a few weeks ,seeing how ppl have rigged their sails :D .Still think there should be a competition for the best picture painted on the sail :roll1:

Hey Speciman,

I was looking at the same stuff, but felt it was a little light and might bend to easily, the dowel rod sounds OK, but try and get hold of some "Class E" PVC pipe, this has a thicker wall and should be more rigid, and you may not need the dowel - I found some at a builders merchant in Stoke - comes in 6m length tho - but got my poles instead as it worked out the same price.

Mike.

Have you still used the T Pieces with your poles?

Spanner,

I don't speak a word of it either, found out a little late on a two week hike along their west coast :D

The Altavista search engine has a translater on it, just put the URL from the french page into the translater and it will translate the whole web page to English, or German if you would prefer.

Marvellous tool and you can use it to translate whole websites, use it at work a lot and they all think I'm billingual.

Like I mentioned earlier think it is important to try and get some twist into the rig for a more comfortable ride. Simon found out what happens when your sail doesn't spill enough wind yesterday.

I just had a look at this google ad

http://www.drdepth.se/

Impresive, looks pretty cool .... so all I need is a RAM laptop mount and a very marine-proof laptop

Given that I alreday spend half my time on the water checking out bottom features I'd never get any fishing done with one of these on board :)

My French isn't too good but that site seemed to be using carbon fibre poles like ones on the kite site I posted earlier, with a solid 8mm pole pushed up inside a 10mm hollow pole. Plenty strength in that methinks...and some flex.

The carbon poles should work but its an expensive option. I popped into my local kite shop today... they have the Exel carbon fibre poles in different diameters (only one 10mm in stock though). We dropped a 5.5mm carbon pole into a 8mm pole and it certainly strengthened it up and reduced flex - an 8mm inside a 10mm pole should be ok but would cost over £40 for the 4 poles.

Did anyone buy their sail material from Point North? Have you received it yet?

Another alternative is replacment tent poles, may not be stiff enough though.
