Capturing streamed music

On occasion, I listen to internet radio (Particularly Tripple J in Australia) and once in a while, they play a great track that simply isn't available in the UK. Is there any easy way of capturing tracks from streamed music sources and tidying them up with a nice fade in/out ?

Surely by the time you've realised it's a great track, it's too late to start recording ? Artist and track name and then you can search for it.

Nah, you can select a listen to a particular program and it then plays in streaming mode via WMP. Navigation in the stream is rather limited but you do have the option of starting over and listening again if you hear a good song.

 

"Doing a search" unfortunatly, doesn't always work. Even bands that are relativly well known in Aus (Like Katalyst) don't always show up on the net. Trying to find obscure stuff is almost impossible.

There is some software that can do this. I have a mate in France who does it all the time. I don't know what the software is off the top of my head, but I will email him and let you know what he uses.

whats the legal status when it comes to recording live streaming radio.?

 

does copyright law still stand?

 

is it as illegal as bittorrents?.(after all your copying something for free)

It was an article about this debate http://news.com.com/Tension+grows+between+..._3-6027079.html that first alerted me to the posibility of ripping from streaming sources.

I would suggest that if the material is protected under copywrite and you make any unauthorised recording of it, you are in breach of the law. I would imagine though that the record industry would be very reluctant to take someone to court for breach of copywrite in teritories where they have declined to release something - if they lost, it would make it legal to have pirated pre-release movies and music that has made it onto the net.
