I just bought this from eBay:

Should fill in the boring bits between paddling and catching fish????

If it latches on to a wreck I guess it's a gonna as I am unlikely to be able to pull it off....should provide some entertainment however... :D

Crikey thats one mighty powerful magnet, and such a small size. I would love to have a bash at seeing what odd n sods would appear out of the gloomy depths. I assume its an electro-magnet, what size battery does it need to function?

Doesn't say how much it weighs, but says it can lift 3 x it's own weight and mentions 200 kgs or 540 kgs trailing weight, which puts it between 70 - 180 kgs. I certainly wouldn't consider lugging something like that around all day, not to mention the possibilty of it having an adverse effect on my onboard electronics.

@ paintfly... the add picture gives the impression its quite small, plus it says it can lift 3x the weight of its leading competitors at a much smaller size magnet I think, not the weight of the unit itself.

just did a quick search, it seems its only 1kg in weight, so no problem there. Its not an electro as I thought, just have to give it a good yank if the object is too large to shift.

OK that sounds reasonable, must admit I did't read the blurb all that closely. I expect you could save yourself a tidy sum salvaging lost tackle. I could certainly point you in the right direction of where I have lost around a hundred quid's worth :D

:) yeah I guess there would be all manner of curriosities waiting to be salvaged. I used to dream of finding a chest full of gold doubloons as a kid... :clap2:

I have used one of the old ones before...the 'competition' as the ad refers to them. They are great fun, but you don't half end up with a lot of junk! A friend of mine used one off a road bridge and recovered a rusty revolver.....

I don't see a serious use for them, but just thought one might add a bit of fun during a dull moment.

With regards to affecting electronics..they should be okay as long as they are kept a sensible distance and are fitted with a 'keeper' when not being used.
