Don't know the reel but if it's the same as their other closed face jobbies, it's on a bayonet fitting. Push down, turn about 15 degrees anticlockwise and lit off.

I am managing the bayonet part ..Its the silver spool cover underneath i can not get off. When i push the black centre piece it release and 2 pins pop back into the cover..when i turn the handle they pop back out. I just cant figure out how to get it off!!!

Forgive me if I mess this up but it's 15 years since I handled my old ABU's.

What you have removed sounds like the outer coweling - also a bayonet type fitting.

To remove the bail pin rotor (the bright silver part) hold the handle still and twist it - it's on a simple thread but might go in the normal direction - like I say, it's been a while.

Once hat'ts off, the slool should be either plastic or aluminium and comes off as I've a;ready described.

There is a button you push in on the opposite side to the handle, the spool cover then unscrews, but it has a left hand thread, so undo it in a clockwise direction as you look from the front of the reel.

The spool is then removed by undoing the bayonet type fitting, anti-clockwise this time.
