Car Insurance Hopping

How many of you do it? I’ve been guilty in the past of just phoning and paying up when the renewal notice came in but for the past couple of years I’ve been using the comparison websites with interesting results. There’s a bloke at work who changes his car insurer every year.

Last year with M&S my fully comp protected no claims premium was £160, the renewal has just come in at £216 so a quick session online and I got the same cover from Sure Thing for £158.

I don’t recognise either as an established car insurer which is why I’ve preferred to stay with Direct Line, I guess the proof of the pudding will be if I have to claim but are they really any worse than the high street insurers? Everyone seems to offer it now.

I try to shop around for the Saab, but last year Swiftcover were still cheapest and this year I didn't get my backside in gear and it rolled.

The Lotus is with a specialist broker, and there's a fairly small pool of them to choose from.

Ge erally just telling the existing one some other company can beat them gets a better deal ,interestingly several use the same insurer (most are just middle men not insurers ) in disguise

Churchil and direct line are just fronts for uk insurance ltd which is owned by RBS

I remember with the bike insurace saving a greedy £20 (the real cost was 50 the inbetween company demanded 70)going directly to the insurer the company used ,the company in question didnt appear to be on any comparison site but their name was at the bottom of the documents the greedy company sent

All a bit different to the old days when you used a broker who wanted their pound of flesh but the brokers are out there disguised as insurance companies all the same and demanding their pound of flesh!
