hybrid fish

Hi, at the weekend i was catching a few fish wich to me could have only been perch gudgeon hybrids, is this possible? They where about 4 inches long maybe smaller, they had the spekaled fin markings and skin markings of the gudgeon but the rough skin and spiked fins of a perch. they also had a purplish eye wich vairied from fish to fish. i also caught some normal gudgeon from the same spot.

They are ruffe, a completely different species.

These are the fish whose numbers have reached plague proportions in Loch Lomond.

I've been told on more than one occasion that zander are hybrids - mind you, the old-fashioned alternative name of pike-perch didn't help much there.

Yup when I was a nipper they were called pike-perch. I thought they were a hybrid back then.
