What purpose do front indicators serve?

I was thinking more of this kind of situation;

In that case, he was going too fast and it should have been obvious from the road positioning what was going on, but there are cases where it's less obvious. If a signal means the biker adjusts his speed and position, that's better, no?

Pedestrians always have the right of way, not just when crossing side roads....... If one drops out of the sky and you hits him with your car, its your fault.

Quite so - but side roads are where drivers most often fail to give way.

That was a tragic occurrence, I've seen a longer version and I think the biker was up to about 90mph. I guess he thought that car driver had correctly assessed his approach speed/distance, nothing but reducing his speed would've helped.

 

There is a point that I think is being missed and that is we're all conditioned to look for front indicators and adjust our behaviour depending on whether they're flashing or not, at times this results in accidents. If we all knew that they weren't fitted the only factor which could affect our (or pedestrians) behaviour is what the oncoming vehicle does. Sure we would still be weighing up all the possibilities as we do now but our decision to do something or not wouldn't be influenced by the presence or the absence of a flashing light.

Side street near me onto a busy main road. Id be forever waiting for an opportunity to cross the side street if i was to wait for no cars on the main road and there are 4 of them withot traffic lights!

 

If People use their indicator properly theres no issue but then im also watching speed. If somone slows down and indicates ill wait but ive almost been hit a few times with nob ends going too fast and indicating as they turn or not indicating AT ALL!

 

If people use them as intended there wont be a problem but some people are just thick and id still rather have front indication as my chances of getting hit would increase without.

Ok an interesting discussion. I didn't think we'd reach a conclusion but that wasn't the intention, just to see what other people thought.

 

I'll put JV44's bulbs back and draw a line under it there.

I absolutely love the pedestrians who multitask while attempting to do battle with a vehicle while attempting to cross in it's path.

Pedestrian crossings in particular where they don't even attempt eye contact with the driver, while on the phone and cross with impunity. knowing that if the driver fails to stop it will be all the drivers fault if they die.

 

Then there's the mother pushing the pram with the kid in it, who's first and foremost to die, because she's busy on the fone chin wagging pushing the kid off the curb without a care as she's busy having a chat about how many pints she necked with her chum the night before.

 

 

And what about the tosser driver with the fone clamped to his her lug ole mister :busted_cop::hammer:

Saw one just yesterday, big black BMW and a smug looking tosser with a fone clamped to his lugole, took his hand off the wheel to change gear to move away :hammer:
