Sonu Baits Skinz hook and feed pellets

When the Skinz hook and feed pellets were first introduced, many angling magazines hailed them as the new best thing in angling: the hook pellets can be prepared on the bank by simply soaking them in lake water for 5 minutes, and they can be hooked in a variety of ways including hair rigging and side hooking. The stretchy coating of the pellet means that it won't come off on the cast and the fish attractants within kick in immediately. The feed pellets can be used straight from the bag and dissolve completely within 15 minutes, leaving behind loads of fish meal which cretaes pwerful attraction for the fish.

The success of these new baits are proven by many expet anglers including Ian Welch and Matt Hayes.

I decided to give it a shot. I went to my local canal, set up my tackle and took about 10-15 hookbaits and soaked them for 5 minutes in water. I side hooked one pellet on a size 16 wide gape kamasan hook with a 2.0g insert waggler. Line was 4.0lb with a 3lb hooklink. I casted out to the middle of the canal. There were no bites for about 10 minutes so I threw in some hookbaits (didn't have feed pellets at the time). 5 mins later there was a bite and I hooked a 3lb canal carp! That would have been my PB but since I didn't have a landing net with me I had to let the fella go.

Now, to prove that this was not a fluke, I tried again another day, but no luck. I was told that the water quality dropped severely due to the increasing presence of algae, which may have affected fish behaviour.

So, I'm wondering if any of you guys have had any success with these Sonu Baits hook pellets and feed pellets? If so, what rig did you use and what fish (and it's size) did you manage to catch on them?

Not ACTUALLY used the pellets myself. But Dave at Calder Anglers tells me he is having some difficulties in keeping the bloody things on the shelves!! Soon as he puts them out some bugga buys them!! That in itself speaks leagues to me!!

It is to be observed that 'angling' is the name given to fishing by people who can't fish.

If GOD had NOT meant us to go fishing, WHY did he give us arms then??

Hi,

I tried them for the first time a couple of weeks ago, and had bites almost immediately on them. I caught some carp of a local lake. Would like to try them in other lakes now to test them out. I just side hooked them, great to cast with stay on the hook very well.

What exactly do you mean by having to let the fella go ? Absolute disgrace the way the noddy's approach fishing.

"Noddys" eh? I take it you are a Carp Expert then?Might have been a bit better sharing your knowledge with a beginner rather than just slagging him.If not then why bother posting at all? Dont impress no one on here pal.

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!

Gosh - I'm betting he meant he unhooked the fish when he got it to the bank but not out of the water.

Sounds reasonable to me if that's what he did and is something I frequently do even when I do have a net with me.

What would you have suggested he do sans landing net?

I think I'm going to have a go with the baits again and see what happens. Maybe I'll get lucky again (I've got a landing net now though - I learnt my lesson). I've heard that if you use the normal pellets, like the marine halibut ones, that you need a pellet pump? I would be very grateful if someone could please enlighten me on this topic.
