abu reel info

a chap showed me an abu multiplyer yesterday on being told i was useless with them (multiplyers) it was a small reel with a strange "flap" the line went through which acted as a constant "feathering" dooda making birds nests (of which i get every cast) unlikely ,he said even his mrs can cast with it

is it just a small fresh/sea reel ,does this braking thing work ,is there a larger version???

I haven't seen an Abu reel with anything like that on it as standard, but there used to be a device that you could fit to any multiplier that sounds like it could be what you're talking about. It was advertised in Sea Angler magazine back in the 70's and was called something like an anti backlash device. I can't remember what the exact name was, but Don's anti-lash comes to mind? It was like a wire spring thingy that fitted to the reel somehow, with a small loop that the line went through. Does that sound like it?

I think I've found what you are looking for. Looks like it works on the same principle as the old anti backlash device I was thinking of.

yes thats the type ,his was more robust looking though and pretty with it ,now i know i wasent seeing things i will have a trawl for them,his was small enough to use in freshwater or sea spinning but i hope larger versions will be out there.

Sold by Don's of Edmonton, as I recall. My Father had a couple of Penn reels with them fitted.
