We have seen them off Co Mayo in Ireland, their fin looks like a sharks, until it starts "flopping" over.

A few years ago off Weymouth with Ken Leicester, we saw a very large one, it must have been close to 100 lbs.

There seems to be more and more "exotic" species frequenting our shores.

Nice, if you dont know what it is, then kill it!

Wish anglers would take more time to learn about the Sea they fish in, and the species that live in the Sea.

Rare Sunfish, just become rarer! :(:(

Harold, I agree with you.

You will notice I said "we have seen them", at no time did we attempt to catch them.

In fact, Ken would not go too close to the one at Weymouth as he didn,t want to "disturb" it.

Cranfield,

As you obviously know your way around Clew Bay, would you consider a little write up for me to use on my website? Have a look at www.louisburgh-mayo.com and the Angling page. It needs more imput and I just don't have the sea angling experience to improve it. Let me know what you think. I would add that the site is not a money making venture, purely a labour of love.

  • 2 weeks later...

Sun fish have been visiting our shores for years I remember seeing them off charmouth (dorset) when I was a kid, (thats about 30 years ago!) along with basking sharks, bream and Dolphins.

We used to see enourmous jelly fish too, about the size of a washing up bowl with fat tenticles never found out what they were though. Something else I havent seen for years is the glow of eflouresecent (scuse spelling) plankton or what ever in the wake of the boat as we motored in at dusk.

There's a fine line between fishing and standing on the shore like an idiot!

Its nice here! http://www.twfcorfu.com
