I am planning to fish the Thames through the closed season this year - but I will be making a concerted attempt to catch my first deliberate Thames trout on the fly, and will not be poaching or chasing coarse fish out of season.

On topic, if the question is "have you ever been tempted to fish somewhere you aren't allowed", surely we've all been tempted, even if we have not succumbed to it?

 

As Steve pointed out so well, yes I have been tempted but not succumbed. Fishing for me is very much about relaxing and enjoying what I am doing. I doubt I would enjoy having to creep around and worrying about being caught fishing in the wrong place even if the potential rewards where tempting. I would rather fish a lesser piece of water and not need to worry that the person on the horizon may be the land owner or a bailiff.

 

It's the same for me about most angling rules for me whether that is about fishing areas,times,bait or hook and rig restrictions. If you are not breaking any rules, you can chill out and get the best enjoyment out of what you are doing. If you are not doing anything wrong then you have nothing to worry about it that may take away so of the enjoyment factor.

 

I posted in another thead about not getting the big Chub Bug that so many others have. For a few years I fished an area of the Lea and could see the out of bounds area that many of the big Lea Chub sit in for some of the year. I could fish above and below this small stretch of water and at the time I was allowed to night fish it and targeted the Zander and Bream. At night while fishing for other species I could have put a chub bait in the "no fishing zone" area and maybe caught a big Chub but I resisted as it would have been a breach of trust and the fishing would have been unecessary stressful worrying about whether every noise I heard was a bailif or owner.

Thanks Steve for bringing it back to topic , i never mentioned out of season and would never fish out of season on a river.

The main reason i asked is i didnt join any clubs this year i know of a few reasonable day ticket river areas but the thought arose knowing how often i've been approached on club waters when i have been a member, How often do these same waters get fished by none members with no-one ever noticing.

everytime i catch a fish i'm lucky when i blank i'm a hopeless angler.
